GAME TECHNOLOGIES AND SYSTEM THEORY AS A BASE FOR IMPROVING THE METHODS OF TEACHING THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Abstract
This article explores key areas for improving project management teaching methods within higher education programs. It is proposed to develop the methodology in two directions. First, it involves more extensively incorporating principles of the systems theory of economics and management into the theoretical component of the course, so that future specialists can better develop a holistic understanding of the field and systems thinking skills. Three theoretical propositions are proposed for inclusion in the course: the role and place of projects in the general typology of economic systems, the connection between projects and production processes, and increasing the level of systematicity in the work of the project management team. The practical component of the course is proposed to be enhanced through game-based project simulation technology, during which students gradually, moving from simple to complex, master project management skills at all stages: from the initial mission statement and detailed project objectives to the preparation of the final budget, a comprehensive risk diagram, and the preparation of a final presentation for potential investors. The final stage of the study assessed the effectiveness of the developed methodology using the experience of teaching project management to students majoring in economics at the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics. The analysis showed that groups that studied the subject using the new methodology experienced a significant increase in motivation to learn the subject, and consequently, in the quality of their learning. This was reflected in an increased proportion of students who passed the course with passing grades during the midterm assessment.
