Abstract

In the context of an increasingly complex economic environment and a shortage of personnel, the situation on the labor market requires a search for new and innovative solutions. Both quantitative and qualitative changes are occurring in the structure of the labor force. At the same time, different regions have noted different and similar labor market problems. The relevance of the study is substantiated by trends in the labor market. For example, the demographic burden on the working population is growing, the number of graduates who do not work in their specialty remains unchanged, there is an acute shortage of blue-collar workers and engineering personnel, and the healthcare and education sectors are suffering. The article presents the results of a study aimed at identifying the characteristics of youth employment. The object of the study is youth, and the subject is youth employment. The empirical data used are arrays of survey data from graduates of higher and secondary educational institutions and surveys of the adult population of the Russian Federation conducted by VTsIOM, statistical data provided by Rosstat, as well as data from reports and surveys of young people's behavior in the labor market. The article also considers the characteristics of youth entrepreneurship and the factors influencing this choice of employment. Based on analysis, synthesis, comparison, and generalization, we were able to identify key characteristics of youth employment and propose recommendations that can help decision-makers draw more informed conclusions when developing programs to promote youth employment and implementing projects aimed at facilitating interactions between educational institutions and employers. Emphasis is also placed on the need to adjust educational programs in both higher education and vocational schools to reflect the economic situation.
